The fight every boxing fan wants to see is apparently a done deal – but you’re going to be waiting a long time before you see it. A report from Lance Pugmire of the LA Times states that the promoters have come to an agreement for the two men to meet in the Fall of 2017 at 160 pounds:

The bout represents the biggest matchup available among active fighters at the moment, and has been rumored for a long time. After Alvarez stopped Amir Khan last month, the bout seemed inevitable. But Alvarez dropping the WBC middleweight belt (which was subsequently awarded to Golovkin) cooled things off and the promoters weren’t talking.

Until two days ago, apparently.

In the meantime, Alvarez is scheduled to fight in September against a yet-unnamed opponent who could end up being Chris Eubank Jr (though he’s rumored to fight Triple G as well). Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler has stated that he’d like Golovkin to fight twice more in 2016.

Hopefully things stay on schedule and we get to see this actually happen. ~ Bloodyelbow.com
